Merry Christmas from 1968

Santa Claus delivers Bauer Dairy milk to my grandfather's house in Elyria, Ohio/

Why did Santa cross the road? To make a delivery, of course.

My grandfather, Louis W. Funk, lived in Elyria, Ohio, for much of his adult life. In 1968, my father, Richard Funk, brought his wife Elizabeth and his two sons, Kevin, and Gary (me), to Elyria from Altadena, Calif., for our first “white” Christmas. As you can see, the lawns were still unusually green Christmas week in Elyria.

But one chilly day, we witnessed Santa delivering dairy products and holiday cheer in the form of a candy cane for each kid on his route. Though we were new to the scene, my brother and I got one! I shot the photo with my first camera. I was 14. It’s just one of the many shots I have scanned this past year. I did not attempt to color correct the image below, preferring time’s patina.
