I spent four days on the grounds of Mont Evray in Nouan-le-Fuzelier, France, visiting with family and friends. The property has a pond surrounded by a path that could accommodate people with disabilities. The path needs repair, but it is still passable for those with an adventurous heart. I took several photos, including this shot of a Gatekeeper Butterfly.

We weren’t the only ones waiting for the bats to take flight. A peregrine falcon grabbed one for dinner.
The Yolo Causeway (I-80) between Davis and Sacramento is home to thousands of bats during the summer months.
Florence is one of my favorite cities in Europe. It’s walkable, full of art, and full of street scenes. I love the combination of these two-wheeled vehicles getting out in front of the bus. You can see the bus driver in the mirror. A lucky shot taken in the late ‘70s.
Arches National Park is a captivating desert landscape in eastern Utah known for its more than 2,000 natural stone arches and numerous other unique rock formations like hoodoos and balanced rocks. The nearby town of Moab is a popular gateway to the park.
Heading toward Sheridan, Wyoming, from The Little Big Horn Battlefield in Montana.
The Indian Memorial was dedicated on June 25, 2003. The memorial commemorates the sacrifice of the Arikara, Apsaalooke (Crow), Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Oyate (Lakota Sioux) tribes in the Battle of the Little Bighorn as they fought to protect their diverse values and traditional way of life.
This area memorializes the US Army's 7th Cavalry, Crow, and Arikara scouts and the Lakotas, Cheyennes, and Arapaho in one of the American Indian's last armed efforts to preserve their way of life.
Back in my Tri-X days at The Hanford Sentinel, a staff photographer's job was finding photos for the paper. We called it “wild art.” One day I came across this kid playing along the side of the road in this grove of ivy (?). He spotted me, but I loved the expression on his face. So did the editors. I hope he grew up to be a happy man.
I visited the Brandenburg Gate in 2005 with my wife and her students from Clovis High School. The trip coincidentally coincided with the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. The Panorama Art Installation at the Brandenburg Gate was set up to commemorate the event by showing the destruction and the rebirth of Germany’s capital city.
The safest place to view a bison is from your vehicle, especially when not visiting a zoo. And Yellowstone is not a zoo, in case you’re wondering. I love the look of interest on the driver’s face.
Here we are in Bryce Canyon National Park. We’ve lived near Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia national parks for almost two decades. We decided to head east to see the great parks in Utah.
A couple of visitors greeting a local cat in Saint-Goustan, France.
The statue of Jackie Robinson was unveiled at Dodger Stadium in 2017. You can view it in the entertainment area near the statue of Sandy Koufax behind the outfield seats. Branly Cadet created both bronzes.
This bronze statue of Sandy Koufax by artist Branly Cadet can be viewed in the entertainment area of Dodger Stadium behind the outfield seats. It is near the statue of Jackie Robinson by the same artist.
Walking through Little Tokyo, it was nice that the city included a sightline to this Los Angeles icon. Shot with an iPhone 13.

I used my iPhone 13 and the under-counter lighting from our new kitchen over the holidays to take these pictures. I added a bit of vignette, but otherwise, no “tricks.”
A high school class assignment.
A typical day after a few days of rain in the Central Valley.
Cleo follows her nose after rain in Sacramento. We tag along.
Oak leaves against the black asphalt following a much-needed November rain.
Storm clouds move to the north as the sun appears in the early afternoon producing a rainbow just up the street from our house.
A bit of sunlight, a bit of windshield, and a bit of rain reflect my house.
Fabienne takes Cleo out for her afternoon constitutional and business meeting.
The mist-shrouded moon floats above the oak branches in Marriott Park, Sacramento, CA.
Orange skies and the setting sun reflect off the Sacramento River. Leafless tree branches silhouette against the golden sky.
Cloudy skies frame a statue of Pope John Paul II with his outstretched arms in front of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere, Lyon, France, in 2018.
Hot and steamy. This is an in-between shot where Old Faithful is building the energy to blow again. Cold weather and cloudy skies add to the mood.
In 1968, my brother Kevin and I witnessed Santa delivering milk and holiday cheer along Stanford Ave in Elyria, Ohio. The Funks were visiting grandpa for the first time over the holidays. But, unfortunately, Bauer Dairy is no more.
Our first trip out of the house since the beginning of Covid.

This photo was taken several decades ago in the Kettleman Hills, west of Interstate 5 in Kings County.
It was less than a year ago Fabienne and I took a trip to several of the West’s popular national parks. We went in May. I took this picture in Arches National Park along the Park Avenue Trail. I liked the immensity of the rock vs the smallness of the people in the dry streambed.
My wife and I spotted this raven in Yellowstone National Park in 2019. It was looking for a handout.
There is so much to look at in the palace at Versailles. Sometimes I found myself more interested in how others were experiencing the beautiful art.
Port of Saint-Goustan, France, along the Auray River. Ben Franklin landed here on Dec. 3, 1776, to seek aid from the French for the War of Independence.
Driggs, Idaho, having fun with the state’s primary agricultural export … the potato.
A lot of thought went into this project. The skis were organized by color and hue.
